Assetto Corsa Competizione: Review

User Rating: 7.1

Assetto Corsa Competizione, in short ACC, is a brilliant game, don’t get me wrong. This is the simulation we’ve all been waiting for on the current-gen consoles. KUNOS admittedly have downgraded the visuals to accommodate the realistic physics on the console edition.

Graphics

Visually, the more powerful PS4 Pro and XBOX X would offer a higher quality HDR and smoother refresh rates I would imagine, but on low specs, there might be serious hardship running this game.

This isn’t a deal-breaker, but it is annoying when you’re doing precise driving to perfect your laps. What this means is, when you are aiming for your mark on the apex the tearing or “jitter” on screen makes it seem the apex has suddenly moved a fraction, and your brain naturally tells your arms and hands to turn the wheel as a reaction. I find this causes overdriving of the car.

I must admit the new AIs are much better. You can see them looking for moves in the mirror but they are a bit twitchy sometimes at the start. I’d like to see a personal driver profile a bit like gt sport.

Realistic Physics

Comparing Project Cars 2 and the original Assetto Corsa can tell you that if you’re expecting touring-car mechanics and physics, this isn’t what you’re going to get here. This is a truly realistic GT3 sim that is unforgiving in its rendition, but ultimately rewarding when you put the time into mastering it. Patience is key if you want to get the best out of this sim.

Every single detail is made very realistic and definitely for racing, rather than arcade, SIM fans. Cars are fantastically detailed, fast, and handle much like the real thing I suspect. The ability to race in differing weather and at night adds another dimension not matched by other Sims.

Is It For Everyone?

ACC has Incredible handling physics great visuals with very detailed & real world track models make this by far the most immersive console sim. Be warned though it will require many hours of practice and experimenting with setups before you will be able to compete with the best. If you are after a casual driving game this isn’t it. Strictly for the hardest of hard core sim heads.

Is It Worth Playing

From a driving perspective, ACC is probably the current champion on the console and if you are a SIM fan, this is for you. If arcade racing is your preference, you will find this game frustrating and getting banned from online lobbies more often than not. This game brings real-life motorsport to your fingertips in the comfort of your own living space.
