Spider-man is a TPP action-adventure game that was released back in 2018 exclusively on PS4, which has been a fan favorite for a while. From the opening cut-scene transition, as you literally dive from Peter Parker straight into being Spider-Man, you will instantly feel that this is the Spider-Man game you have always dreamed of.
Gameplay Is Simply Worth A Praise
It also got happy, thrilling, emotional, suspense, funny, sad, angry scenes that will keep you stick to your controller. They have many suits from the previous comics along with web gadgets and suit powers! The web-swinging in the game is what makes it a great game it’s like when you see how cool spiderman swinging in the movies but this one you’re actually controlling it and they made new york so well done you could even get to explore it and take photos and check bugles and talk with people. You get to also play with peter (without your suit), there are so many side missions, challenges, activities, crimes, bases, landmarks, and lots of collectibles, which you’ll love.
Combat draws off of Arkham City, but it has enough unique things that make it stand apart. Gadgets play an important role in combat and they are satisfying to use. They also encourage experimentation which makes for some truly amazing battles. The boss battles are also pretty good, better than most boss battles in other games. Web-swinging is so fun AT FIRST, but I will admit after a while the novelty wears off and it becomes repetitive. The animations get stale and there are a few glaring issues. For instance, apparently Spider-Man can’t web swing into the side of building and just STICK. He either runs up the wall or just runs into the wall and falls straight down. For some reason, he can’t just STICK there.
Combat Is Fluid (So Are The Visuals)
Everything about the game is fun and innovative, not to mention visually stunning. Granted, the game does use a lot of beats from the Batman: Arkham franchise of games, especially the style of combat, but it always puts its own spin on the concept, making it feel fresh and perfectly in keeping with the character and world.
The combat is fluid and stylish, the traversal mechanics feel weighty and play heavily on momentum, something which makes it feel so much better once you master them and the world feels lived in, with collectibles and dialogue making it truly feel like you’ve been following it for years, despite only just entering the world.
Character Development and Mini Games
Without going into spoilers, the game does a fantastic job of allowing you to connect with the characters, making all the harder to watch the later stages of the story play out, with the game punching you in the gut multiple times before the conclusion. The game is also very well thought out in terms of its side activities, which flesh out the story and allow for the game’s lore to be enhanced and explored in some cases, while others show some consequences of the main plotline. The mini-games are a stroke of genius as well, realistically tying in Peters’s scientific background and making the world seem even more believable. Overall, this game is a must-play for fans of Spider-man, fans of superhero games, and fans of thoughtful, emotion-driven, storytelling alike. Put simply, this game deserves all the adjectives associated with its title character.
In Comparision With Arkham Franchise
All motions as this hero are fluid and precise making moving around areas just as fun as fighting a dozen enemies, which is also engaging in its own way. Spider-man’s combat is basically the most polished version of Arkham style button mashing, but with stronger enemies, and more dense locations the combat never gets as repetitive as it did in later entries into the Batman series. The world is the most detailed representation of New York to date with small dioramas in each window adding to the believability of the city.
Our Thoughts On Marvel’s Spider-man
Overall, this game is a must-play for fans of Spider-man, fans of superhero games, and fans of thoughtful, emotion-driven, storytelling alike. Put simply, this game deserves all the adjectives associated with its title character. It’s spectacular. It’s superior. It’s amazing. And It’s definitely worth playing.
